A Rabbit's Zazen

In the times when you cannot sit still, be mindful anyway

It’s not always possible to sit in stillness and silence. We still need moments to pay attention as if we can. Buddhists talk about conquering the “Monkey Mind,” which takes our thoughts everywhere. But what about a rabbit’s body? Fidgety and anxious?

Sit anyway. Stop, look, and listen to the world around you. Focus on things other than your need to move. Move as you must, without adding to your anxiety. Do not become anxious about being anxious.

I go to the park, sit on a bench, and sing freesong to vent the anxiety. The improvised and wordless music helps still my monkey mind. Sometimes I find someone else benefits from the moment of my unstill zen. Like a rabbit listening to the wind in clover. Enjoy this moment with us. The video and audio are as they were in the moment. Always experience things as they are. Not as what they might be.
